The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Canadian man for an Attempted Assault that occurred on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 9:40 a.m. in Plainview.
According to detectives, the defendant Min Qiao Lin, 39, of 31 Ingleton Blvd, Scarborough, Ontario, was observed by a highway patrol officer, driving a 2018 Audi Q7 eastbound on the Long Island Expressway using the left shoulder as a lane of traffic. While the officer attempted a vehicle stop by engaging his emergency lights and sirens, the defendant Lin refused to pull over. Defendant Lin committed multiple VTL violations, fleeing eastbound, and exiting the Long Island Expressway, entering Route 135 where he intentionally strikes a police vehicle that was assisting in pulling him over. The defendant then exits Route 135 and enters eastbound on the Northern State Parkway where he intentionally swerves his vehicle again into the police officers patrol car. This causes defendant Lin to lose control of his vehicle, strike a barrier, and flip over coming to a stop in the roadway.
The defendant Lin and his male passenger were removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Investigation is ongoing.
Defendant Min Qiao Lin is being charged with multiple VTL violations, Attempted Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing 3rd Degree, Leaving the Scene of Incident, and Reckless Driving. He will be arraigned on Saturday, March 30, 2019 in First District Court, Hempstead.
