The First Squad reports the arrest of two men that occurred on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 8:05 P.M. in Baldwin.
According to Detectives, Officers conducting an investigation at 2432 Grand Avenue observed the two defendants inside the closed and locked building. When officers knocked on the door and announced their presence to investigate further, defendant Hugh Brown, 28, of Westbury attempted to flee by the rear entrance. Defendant David Smith, 35, of Freeport was instructed to exit the rear when he stated he could not unlock the front door. Officers observed Smith place something inside a closet prior to exiting. Subsequent to the investigation it was determined no additional people were inside the location and a black loaded Smith & Wesson handgun with additional ammunition was located in the closet. Both defendants were taken into custody without incident. No injuries reported.
Defendant Hugh Brown was charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd degree and given an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court on Monday, May 20, 2019. Defendant David Smith is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in First District Court, Hempstead.
