The Fifth Squad reports the Arrest of a Laurelton, NY man for Assault that occurred on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Lynbrook.
According to detectives, Nassau County patrol units, with assistance from the Lynbrook Police Department, responded to 839 Sunrise Highway in response to a subject wanted for Criminal Contempt. Upon arrival, the defendant, Joshua Mitchell, 23, fled the scene on foot. While being apprehended after a foot pursuit, the defendant refused lawful orders and resisted arrest. Joshua Mitchell was then placed into custody. The defendant was found to be in possession of a forged Connecticut driver’s license.
During the course of pursing and apprehending the subject, two Nassau County Police Officers were injured. One officer suffered an elbow and hand injury. The other officer suffered a knee injury. Both officers were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Joshua Mitchell is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree (with intent to cause physical injury to a Police Officer), Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer 3rd Degree, Criminal Contempt 2nd Degree and Aggravated Harassment 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
