NCPD Police Youth Academy
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder are pleased to announce the scheduling of a Nassau County Police Department Youth Police Academy. The Police Youth Academy, which was started in 2007, brings students from Nassau County School Districts to the Police Academy for a one-day modified academy. It exposes students to everyday police work, aims to establish a positive relationship between the Police Department and young adults and assists in recruiting our future Police Officers from all communities.
The Police Youth Academy consists of classroom lectures from our Asset Forfeiture and Intelligence Unit, given by Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, the Police Departments Use of Force lecture, as well as physical training, defensive tactics and demonstrations from the Canine Unit, Bureau of Special Operations, Mounted Unit, Aviation and obstacle course exercises. It emphasizes responsible citizenship and the impact of ones choices and consequences.
