The Gang Investigations Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for Attempted Murder that occurred on Tuesday, August 06, 2019 at 12:47 a.m. in Hempstead.
According to Detectives, members of the Gang Investigations Squad, as part of the Hempstead Initiative, were on patrol when they observed a disturbance on the corner of Princeton Avenue and Bennett Avenue. As the detectives approached the disturbance they observed a male reach for his waistband and flee on foot westbound on Princeton Avenue. While pursuing the subject he was observed throwing a black handgun into the rear yard of a residence on Stewart Avenue before being taken into custody on Wellesley Avenue. Assisting Detectives secured the hand gun and continued their investigation. The further investigation determined that just prior to police arrival, the victim attempted to intervene in an argument the defendant, Rashon Williams, 25, of 59 Bennington Avenue, was having with an unknown female. The victim told the defendant to leave the woman alone and he was going to call 911. The defendant then pointed a gun and fired one shot at the victim just narrowly missing him.
The defendant, Rashon Williams, has been charged with Murder 2nd Degree (Attempt), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, August 06, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
