The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Arson that occurred on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 12:20 pm in Hempstead.
According to detectives, the male victim, 78, was notified by his granddaughter, 21, of a smoke condition in their Duncan Road residence. The smoke was coming from an attached garage. They exited the house and the granddaughter attempted to use a garden hose to put out the fire that was spreading on a garage wall. She was unsuccessful and called 911. Hempstead Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
A thorough investigation was conducted and Kaliyh Johnson, 23, of 90 Stewart Avenue was arrested.
Defendant Johnson is charged with Arson 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
