Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Locust Valley man for Vehicular Manslaughter that occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 11:45 pm in Glen Cove.
According to detectives, an ambulette was traveling southbound on Walnut Road with their lights and sirens on, transporting a male patient for difficulty breathing. A 1997 Cadillac STS, operated by defendant Alvaro Gutierrez-Garcia, 27, 57A 1st Street, Locust Valley was traveling eastbound on Forest Avenue and struck the ambulette at the intersection of Walnut Road and caused the ambulette to overturn on the roadway. Glen Cove Police, Nassau County Police and multiple ambulances responded to scene. The Driver and EMT of the ambulette were both transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. The patient, Denis Motherway, 85, of Bayville was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced by hospital physicians at approximately 12:10 am.
Defendant Alvaro Gutierrez-Garcia is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 1st degree, Aggravated DWI and two counts of Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
