The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Queens man for DWI – Leandra’s Law on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 4:40 pm in Rockville Centre.
According to police, an officer on patrol observed Stanislav Shvartsman, 40, of 7306 180th Street, operating a 2020 Mercedes Benz traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway. The officer observed Shvartsman change lanes multiple times without signaling and initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop.
During the investigation, the defendant did attempt to flee the scene and drove away. The officer followed the vehicle while activating his emergency lights and siren. A subsequent investigation was conducted and Shvartsman was placed under arrest without further incident. The defendant’s 13-month-old child was a passenger in the vehicle. The child was left in the custody of a family member. No injuries were reported.
Defendant Shvartsman is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, and multiple traffic infractions. He will be arraigned Thursday, September 12, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
