The Marine Bureau reports the details of a water rescue that occurred on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. off Freeport.
According to police, Marine 6 responded to a call for an overturned sailboat in the Jones Inlet. Upon arrival it was determined the boat had been hit by a large wave and the operator, a male, 45, was thrown into the water. The victim was able to climb on the overturned boat and await police arrival. The victim was transported back to shore on Marine 6 and with the assistance of Marine 2 were able to tow the sailboat back to shore as well. No injuries were reported.
