
Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Copiague man for Grand Larceny (Attempted) on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 2:35 pm in Carle Place.
According to Fraud and Forgery Detectives, an unknown male contacted the male victim, 86, and claimed to be a lawyer representing his grandson after he was arrested for DWI. The male further explained the accident occurred in Atlantic City, a pregnant woman in the second car was injured and taken to the hospital. The subject told the victim the Judge would release his grandson on seven thousand five hundred dollars ($7,500) cash. The subject directed the victim to go to the bank, withdraw the money and call him back to arrange a location for the transaction.
The victim contacted his son to discuss the situation. They reported the incident to the police and a thorough investigation was conducted.
Elvis Espinal-Duran, 30, of 220 Maple Court was arrested.
Defendant Espinal-Duran is being charged with Grand Larceny (Attempted) 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at first District Court, Hempstead.
