Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a Fatal Auto Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 3:40 pm in Carle Place.
According to detectives, while attempting to cross Old Country Road on foot from the north side to the south side in the vicinity of Cherry Lane, a 65 year old male from Mineola was struck by an eastbound 1995 Nissan Maxima driven by an 18 year old male.
As a result of the collision the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, who remained at the scene, was not injured. His vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.
The accident, which was deemed to be non-criminal, continues to be investigated.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time.
The victim has been identified as retired Det. Joseph G. Skowronski, 65, from the Nassau County Police Department.
