Garden City Police report the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Grand Larceny that occurred on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 12:20 pm in Garden City.
According to detectives, a male entered HL Gross & Bro. Jewelers located at 840 Franklin Avenue and agreed to purchase a loose diamond for $15,987.43 dollars. The customer stated he was going to the bank to obtain a cashier’s check for the purchase. A short time later, the male returned and completed the transaction with a cashier’s check. The male was wearing an FBI jacket and placed a gold colored FBI badge on the counter during the transaction.
It was later determined the subject used a forged JP Morgan Chase cashier’s check to pay for the merchandise and is not employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A thorough investigation was conducted. On Saturday, November 23, 2019 Michael Morgan, 51, of 280 Crown Street was arrested.
Defendant Morgan is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Criminal Impersonation 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
