The Nassau County Police Department reports the Arrest of an Amityville man for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in Hewlett.
According to Police, a Fourth Precinct Officer observed Jose Pleitez, 41, of 600 Broadway, failing to stay in a single lane while driving a 1999 Plymouth eastbound on Peninsula Blvd. toward Hill Rd. The defendant had an 8-year-old female in the back seat of the car at the time of the incident.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the defendant’s breath and observed that he had glassy eyes and slurred speech. At this time, the defendant was placed under arrest. The minor was released to his mother, who was also in the car at the time of the incident.
The defendant is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under Leandra’s Law as well as multiple VTL violations. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
