Heroes & Helpers
County Executive Laura Curran and Commissioner of Police Patrick Ryder announce “Heroes & Helpers”, an annual event that pairs 50 deserving children from the Westbury School District with police officers who will assist them with holiday shopping.
The Heroes & Helpers program helps foster strong community relationships as children from the Westbury area will shop with police officers for holiday gifts for their families through a grant awarded by Target. The NCPD Foundation has generously matched the grant doubling each child’s spending limit to $200 per child.
Ten children from each of the five schools have been identified by their respective schools as meeting the criteria for this grant. The children and a guidance counselor from each school will be transported in NCPD Department vehicles to the Westbury Target by Police Officers from Community Affairs, who will be assisting with the event.
A welcoming celebration with Police Officers dressed as superheroes will kick off the event followed by refreshments and a shopping spree using gift cards distributed by Target team members and the NCPD Foundation. Upon completion, they will be returned to their schools by police officers.
When: Friday, December 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Target Store, 999 Corporate Drive, Westbury.
