DANGERS OF VAPING
Commissioner of Police Patrick J. Ryder and Officers from the Community Affairs Unit will be at Elmont Memorial Junior-Senior High School to speak to the students and staff about the dangers of vaping.
Using e-cigarettes (vaping) has become an epidemic among teens in Nassau County public schools and nationally. Between 2017 and 2018, e-cigarette use among middle schoolers increased by 48 percent and among high schoolers by 78 percent, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. More than a quarter of all high school students are frequent e-cigarette users, with 28 percent vaping more than 20 times per month.
