The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Roslyn Heights man for DWI-Leandra’s Law that occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 6:20 am in Roslyn Heights.
According to police, while on routine patrol, Highway officers observed Chaojen Cheng, 53, of 166 Old Powerhouse Road, operating a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at exit 33 and was failing to maintain its lane. The officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop in front of 166 Old Powerhouse Road. During the investigation it was determined that the defendant emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath and had glassy eyes. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendants 10 year old son was seated in the back of the vehicle. The child was released to the mother at scene. No injuries were reported.
The defendant Chaojen Chang is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16-Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and several VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
