The Nassau County Police Department was called to an Unusual Incident that occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 4:46 pm in Upper Brookville.
According to The Nassau County Police Department, Old Brookville Police Officers responded to a 911 call for an excavation site accident in the vicinity of Wolver Hollow Road. Two males, 57 and 45, were working at the bottom of an excavated site, where septic rings were being installed. While both men were in the hole, the wall of dirt and sand became compromised and collapsed. The men were covered by five (5) ft. of material. Old Brookville Police requested assistance from The Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU). Upon ESU’s arrival, the area was partially re-excavated and a male, 45, was rescued. He was pronounced a short time later by a Nassau County Police Medic.
Eight (8) Fire Departments and Nassau County Police Department Fire Marshalls were on scene to assist.
The site became unsafe and had to be stabilized prior to continuing recovery work.
Recovery efforts are ongoing.
Homicide Squad and Second Squad detectives are on scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
