The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for an incident that occurred on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 9:10 p.m. in Westbury.
According to Police, plain-clothes officers were checking on the welfare of the driver of a white 2003 Infinity parked on Broadway. Officers approached the vehicle with their shields displayed and announced themselves as police officers. The driver was observed holding a clear glass tube containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine. As the officers attempted to talk to the driver he fled the scene violating multiple vehicle and traffic laws. Defendant Genri Palacios Acosta, 35, of 29 Meadowbrook Road was stopped on Prospect Avenue. At that time the defendant struck the police vehicle with his vehicle and once again fled the scene. Officers stopped the defendant in the parking lot of 300 Duffy Avenue in Hicksville where he refused to exit his vehicle. The defendant continued to resist officers attempts to place him into custody resulting in the deployment of an Electrical Control Device. The defendant was then placed into custody without further incident. Both the defendant and a Police Officer were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment of minor injuries.
Defendant Genri Palacios Acosta has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, three (3) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest, Leaving the Scene of an Incident w/ Injury, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
