The First Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Thursday, February 4, 2020 at 9:50 P.M. in Roosevelt.
According to detectives, Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) officers were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle when a white 2016 Audi sedan was observed failing to come to a complete stope at the intersection of Lakewood Avenue and Rose Avenue in Roosevelt. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle Traffic Law (VTL) stop. When officers approached the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected and all three occupants were uncooperative. During the investigation, officers had defendant Steven Townsend, 30, of 52 Linden Street exit the vehicle from the rear passenger seat when a bulge in his waistband was observed. Defendant Steven Townsend was searched and a loaded black semi-automatic handgun was found. Defendant Steven Townsend was placed under arrest without further incident.
Defendant Steven Townsend is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and False Personation. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
