The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for an incident that occurred on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 1:06 a.m. in East Meadow.
According to Police, First Precinct Officers observed a 2012 Nissan Rogue driving erratically eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. As officers attempted to conduct a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop, the vehicle fled southbound on Newbridge Road. The vehicle was observed driving recklessly and struck a parked vehicle on Bush Street, a second vehicle on Fairview Avenue and a third vehicle on First Avenue. After striking the third vehicle the defendant, Oscar Ramos Lopez, 18, of 485 Front Street exited his vehicle, ignored all officers verbal commands and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit and with the help of Nassau County Police K-9 units the defendant was located hiding in an open detached garage on First Street. After a struggle with officers the defendant was placed into custody. The subsequent investigation determined the vehicle driven by the defendant had been reported stolen from Hempstead on 2/22/2020.
The defendant Oscar Ramos Lopez has been charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, Three (3) counts of Leaving the Scene of an Incident, Resisting Arrest and Reckless Driving. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
