The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Pennsylvania man for DWI-Leandra’s Law on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:45AM in Wantagh.
According to Police, while on routine patrol, Seventh precinct officers observed Luis Carabello-Santiago, operating a 2019 Kia Sorrento. The vehicle was observed with a defective brake light, officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on the Sunrise Highway overpass of the Wantagh State Parkway. During the investigation it was determined that the defendant emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath and had glassy eyes. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendants ten and six year old daughters were seated in the back of the vehicle. The children were released to the mother at scene. No injuries were reported.
The defendant, Luis Carabello-Santiago, is charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated(Child under 16-Leandra’s Law), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two counts of Driving While Intoxicated and multiple VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
