The Nassau County Police Department reports the details of a fire that occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 7:55 pm in Mineola.
According to detectives, Nassau County Police and Mineola Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a garage fire in the rear of 101 Main Street. When police arrived several commercial businesses and multiple apartments were fully engulfed in flames causing extensive damage. The Mineola Fire Department was assisted by eight (12) other local departments, which consisted of approximately two hundred (200) firefighters. Two (2) firefighters were treated and evaluated at the scene for signs of exhaustion. The Red Cross also responded to assist with approximately 15 displaced residents. Arson/Bomb Squad detectives, Fire Marshalls, Village of Mineola Building Department, and The Town of North Hempstead were all on scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
