The Fifth Squad reports the Arrest of a Long Beach man for Reckless Endangerment that occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 11:35 a.m. in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, while on routine patrol, officers noticed the defendant, Travis Whitfield, 25, operating a 2013 Mercedes Benz at a high rate of speed west bound on Merrick Rd. while weaving in and out of traffic. When officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to conduct a vehicle stop, the defendant continued to speed west bound on Merrick Rd. The defendant then crashed his vehicle into a building at 906 W. Merrick Rd., causing damage, and fled the scene on foot. With the assistance of the Aviation Unit, the subject was placed under arrest a short time later without incident.
The defendant is charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree and multiple VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at First District Court, Hempstead.
