Fifth Squad detectives report the arrest of an Elmont woman for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 8:50 pm in Elmont.
According to detectives, a female complainant, 19, reported to police that Jasmin Santana, 38, of 865 Troy Street stated she had COVID-19 and was coughing and spitting on doors throughout the home. As a result of the disturbance, officers responded and observed Santana was intoxicated, acting irate when they attempted to escort her to an ambulance for treatment. Santana became combative, physically fought with and spit at officers repeatedly, as they attempted to transport her to the hospital. A police officer was kicked in the face, splitting his lip open, causing substantial pain, bleeding, swelling and a severe headache with neck pain.
Santana was placed under arrest and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. The injured officer was also treated at the hospital and released.
Defendant Santana is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration. She will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on April 9, 2020.
