Sixth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Bronx man for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property that occurred on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 4:09 am in East Hills.
According to detectives, a patrol officer observed a newer model gray Jeep Cherokee and a 2016 Lincoln Navigator driving southbound on Glen Cove Road at a high rate of speed. The officer activated her emergency lights to conduct a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. The vehicles refused to comply and continued southbound. The operator of the Navigator was forced to brake abruptly to avoid striking a tractor trailer. The operator attempted to strike the officer’s patrol car. The subject accelerated at a high rate of speed while attempting to go around the tractor trailer and lost control of the Lincoln. The subject struck a telephone pole, fence and a tree. After colliding with the tree, a large branch fell and struck the officer’s vehicle. The subject was placed under arrest. The investigation revealed the Lincoln was stolen from Old Brookville.
The officer suffered injuries to her left forearm, hand, collar bone and neck. She was transported to an area hospital, treated and released.
Rodolfo Lopez, 23, of 2760 Grand Concourse was transported to an area hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. He was in possession of multiple stolen credit cards.
The Jeep fled southbound on Glen Cove Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
Defendant Lopez is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 2nd Degree, seven (7) counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Infractions. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
