
The Third Squad reports the arrest of a homeless Hempstead man for Assault that occurred on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 5:51 am in Hempstead.
According to detectives, a Hempstead Police Patrol Supervisor observed the defendant Corey Anthony, 50, removing assorted items from a gray Nissan that had its rear passenger window smashed while parked on North Franklin Avenue. As the Hempstead police supervisor approached defendant Anthony he fled the scene on foot and a brief foot pursuit was initiated with responding Hempstead police. Hempstead police were able to stop the defendant in the vicinity of Bedell and Terrace Avenue. As the officers attempted to place him into police custody defendant Anthony refused and began flailing his arms while kicking and punching the officers before eventually being placed into custody. Two Hempstead police officers were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for injuries. One officer suffered a broken right wrist and the other suffered swelling and bruising to his left arm.
Defendant Corey Anthony will be charged with Assault 2nd degree and Petit Larceny. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
