First Squad detectives report the arrest of an Elmont man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, May 2, 2020 at 10:00 am in East Meadow.
According to detectives, Carre Handhel, 32, of 216 Elzey Avenue, while in police custody at Nassau University Medical Center, 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, and pending arraignment for assault and false report charges, became irate and made several threats to physically assault officers. The defendant then spit on officers while stating he was infected with the AIDS virus. Handhel became physically combative and violently fought with the officers. During the struggle, a police officer sustained scrapes and abrasions to his right and left forearms which caused substantial pain and bleeding.
The officers received treatment from hospital staff and released.
Defendant Handhel is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Menacing 3rd Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
