
The Seventh Squad reports the Arrest of a Uniondale man for a DWI that occurred on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 11:28 AM in Merrick.
According to Detectives, a marked Nassau County Police Department unit was on routine patrol when his vehicle was last to be struck in a four-car, rear end accident on Merrick Road. During the investigation, the vehicle that caused the accident, a gray 2010 Toyota sedan, operated by defendant Ainsley Bennett, 65, of 711 Terrace Place, began to leave the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle on foot, during which he sustained an injury to his ankle. The Officer was treated at an area hospital. When defendant Bennett did stop his vehicle, additional responding Officers detected slurred speech and disorientation. Field sobriety tests were administered and the defendant was placed under arrest at scene. Further investigation revealed that defendant Bennett was involved in two prior accidents, one at 11:25 AM at 1780 Sunrise Highway, Merrick, and another at 11:35 AM in the vicinity of Central Parkway and Merrick Road, Merrick. There were no additional injuries reported for all three accidents.
Defendant Ainsley Bennett is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Assault 2nd Degree, and three (3) counts of Leaving the Scene of an Incident. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Mineola.
