The Homicide Squad reports the Arrest of a Florida man for an incident that occurred on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 4:37 PM in East Garden City.
According to Detectives, Matthew Mummaw, 33, of 7456 Laura Street N, Jacksonville, Florida was operating a Bucket Truck and while driving southbound on Merchants Concourse struck five vehicles that were stopped at the red light at the intersection of Corporate Drive. The defendant continued southbound on Merchants Concourse where he struck a bicyclist at the Meadowbrook Parkway Overpass. The defendant then made a right hand turn onto Stewart Avenue where he was involved in a head on collision with two more vehicles before finally coming to a stop. Third Precinct Officers arrested the defendant at that location. Defendant Mummaw was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment. The bicyclist, a 39-year old adult male, was pronounced at the scene. The Investigation is ongoing.
The defendant is charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Incident, two charges of Driving While Ability Impaired, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Reckless Driving and Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. He will be arraigned at a later date when medically practical.
