Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the details of an incident involving an “Elder Scam” that occurred on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 6:36 pm in Massapequa.
According to detectives, an 86 year old female victim received a phone from an individual claiming to be her grandson who stated he had been arrested. She was then informed that someone would be sent to pick up $9,000 needed for his bail. The victim became suspicious and called police to file a report when she realized the phone call she received was a scam.
The Nassau County Police Department will continue to educate all residents about crimes, especially those against the elderly at our educational forums. We remind all residents that they should call 911 immediately if they were contacted from any individual requesting that they send money.
