The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport juvenile on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 9:01pm in Valley Stream.
According to Detectives, at approximately 8:50pm in the parking lot of 207 W. Merrick Road, the male juvenile offender, 17, did approach the female victim, 61, from the rear, demanded her belongings and then forcibly removed her pocketbook from her hands. Police Officers searching for the subject located him at the intersection of Stringham Avenue and Hancock Place in Valley Stream and he was placed into custody without incident at 9:01pm. There were no injuries reported and some of the proceeds were recovered.
Subsequent to the investigation it was determined that the subject was responsible for an additional five incidents occurring in Valley Stream:
August 8, 2020 at 10:59pm; 906 W. Merrick Road – female victim, 20, pocketbook grabbed from the ground and subject fled the scene.
August 19, 2020 at 8:05pm; W. Merrick Road and Green Street – female victim, 64, pocketbook ripped off her shoulder and subject fled the scene.
August 23, 2020 at 9:45pm; W. Merrick Road and Ormonde Boulevard – female victim, 60, was hit from behind, pushed to the ground by the subject and he then ripped pocketbook from her hands and fled the scene. Victim suffered lacerations and bruises.
August 26, 2020 at 9:55pm; in front of 181 W. Merrick Road; female victim, 47, pocketbook pulled off victim’s shoulder and subject fled the scene.
The arrestee is charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree, two counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree and Petit Larcey. He will be arraigned on Tuesday September 1, 2020 in Mineola.
