The Third Squad reports on the arrest of two Bronx men for Criminal Mischief that occurred on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 1:55 am in New Hyde Park.
According to Detectives, two Officers assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) were conducting patrol near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Barwick Street. The Officers heard a loud cutting sound and observed a large number of sparks and smoke emanating from underneath a parked gray 2007 Toyota. Defendant Anthony Garcia, 26, of 471 E 140 Street, was operating a battery powered saw and had removed the vehicles catalytic converter. As Officers were approaching, they observed Defendant Garcia handing the catalytic converter to defendant Johann Estrella, 33, of 3780 Bronx Boulevard. Officers conducted an investigation and placed both defendants under arrest without incident.
Defendant Anthony Garcia and Johann Estrella are both charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 4th degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree and Possession of Burglar’s Tools. Both will be arraigned on Sunday, September 13, 2020 in Mineola.
