Third Squad detectives report the arrest of a Queens man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 7:25 pm in East Garden City.
According to detectives, police responded to a 911 call for a miscellaneous complaint at 208 Ellington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers were informed the building’s maintenance department was contacted about a water leak. After conducting the repair, the maintenance technician felt the broken pipe may have been caused by a discharged firearm and contacted police.
Three subjects were observed jumping from a second-floor balcony. Prior to jumping, an object was thrown to the ground. The subjects fled on foot.
A short time later the subjects were located in the vicinity of Commercial Avenue and Quentin Roosevelt Blvd. and a thorough investigation was conducted. It was determined that a handgun was the object thrown to the ground when police arrived.
Kayshawn Joseph, 25, of 111-19 Witthoff Street was arrested.
Defendant Joseph is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He will be arraigned on Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Mineola.
