Major Case Bureau-Gang Investigations Squad detectives report the arrest of a Queens man for Assault that occurred on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 10:35 pm in Freeport.
According to detectives, the male victim, 67, was working as a gas station attendant at 131 W. Merrick Road. A male customer handed the employee ten dollars ($10) for gas. The victim felt the male was too close and requested him to step back due to the Corona virus. The male became angry, returned to his vehicle and removed a metal bar. The subject struck the victim in the head causing a large laceration. The victim was also struck in the ribs and right leg causing multiple contusions.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. It was determined the victim suffered a fractured skull.
The subject fled the scene.
A thorough investigation was conducted and Hiram Vega, 41, of 7729 79th Street was arrested on Friday, September 18, 2020.
Defendant Vega is being charged with Assault 1st Degree and two (2) counts of Assault 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in Mineola.
