Major Case Bureau Detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11:39 am.
According to Fraud and Forgery Detectives, a 52 year old male victim contacted the UPS facility located at 300 Oak Street, Uniondale, to report a package that was fraudulently purchased using his credit card. A UPS security supervisor contacted police and a subsequent investigation ensued.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11:39 am, defendant, Tracy Hammond, 49, of 103 Martin Luther King Drive, Hempstead, arrived at the facility to claim the package. Detectives, who coordinated with UPS security, responded to the facility and placed Hammond under arrest without incident. The defendant was found to be in possession of forged documents bearing the victim’s name. He was also in possession of several fraudulent Drivers Licenses and multiple fraudulent credit cards.
Defendant Hammond is charged with Identity Theft 1st Degree and six (6) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, November 5, 2020, in Mineola.
