The Nassau County Police reports the details of an aided case involving a Nassau man that occurred Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 9:40AM in Levittown.
According to Police, a 43 year old male was working on his vehicle near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Loring Road. The victim put a jack under the vehicle and extended it to lift the vehicle off the ground so he could inspect underneath it. As the victim was lying under the vehicle lying face up, parallel to the road, the jack gave out. The vehicle collapsed on top of the victim, trapping him with one of his arms across his chest, restricting his breathing. The vehicle hit the side of the curb, preventing it from fully collapsing on top of the victim. Eighth precinct Officers responded to the scene and were able to put the jack back under the vehicle and used it to lift the vehicle up slightly to decrease pressure on the man’s chest as he could not breath. Several Nassau County Emergency Service Unit (ESU) Officers responded to the scene and deployed a Power Mat Rescue Bag, which are capable of lifting approximately 17 tons each, under the vehicle. They inflated the bag, slowly lifting the vehicle off the ground; allowing the victim to slide himself freely from underneath. The victim was assessed by a Nassau County Police Medic at scene and declined any further medical treatment. No injuries reported at scene.
