The Third Squad reports the arrest of three men for the Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 10:43 PM in New Hyde Park.
According to Detectives, Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) Officers were on routine patrol in an unmarked vehicle when they observed a white 2006 Mercury Marquis traveling southbound on New Hyde Park Road. The vehicle had extremely dark tints on all four windows and the registration was expired. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop near the intersection of Holiday Gate. When Officers approached the vehicle they immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana. Officers removed all five occupants, the operator, defendant Hamlet Espinal, 18, of 4603 High Street, Pennsauken, New Jersey, front right seat passenger defendant Angel Bonilla, 19 of 4257 Ormond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, rear right passenger defendant Eddy Martinez, 18, of 1083 Walton Avenue, Bronx and two other adult males. Officers observed a loaded 9mm pistol from under the front passenger seat of the vehicle and placed the three defendants under arrest. Further investigation led to a second loaded pistol being found in the vehicle.
Defendant Hamlet Espinal is charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd degree, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Multiple Vehicle Traffic Law violations. Defendant Angel Bonilla is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. Defendant Eddy Martinez is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. They will be all be arraigned on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Mineola.
