The First Squad reports the details of an arrest that occurred on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 12:35 a.m. in Uniondale.
According to Detectives, First Precinct Police Officers observed a black 2001 Nissan Maxima commit multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations near the intersection of Nassau Road and Uniondale Avenue. As officers attempted to initiate a car stop the vehicle refused to pull over and entered the Southern State Parkway westbound at exit 21. After a short distance the vehicle pulled over onto the grass and the driver, Crystal Martin, 34, of 6588 162nd Street, Flushing, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the defendant was taken into custody. An investigation found multiple glass pipes containing what is believed to be crack-cocaine throughout the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle, Dana Leak, 48, of 241 Commercial Street, Freeport, was taken into custody without further incident and was found to have an open warrant from Nassau County. A further investigation determined that defendant Martin was involved in a disturbance on December 7, 2020 in Baldwin. While officers were investigating that disturbance, the defendant struck an officer with the Nissan Maxima driver’s side door multiple times before striking the officers vehicle. The defendant fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Defendant Martin has been charged with Assault 2nd Degree, two counts of Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, two counts of Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd Degree and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations.
