The Fifth Squad reports the arrests of 3 adult males and one adolescent offender for a loaded firearm that occurred in Lynbrook on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 2:26 am.
According to detectives, a Nassau County Police Officer on patrol did observe a 2006 BMW
travelling east on Sunrise Highway with 4 occupants without headlights on and at a high rate of speed. The police officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to conduct a Vehicle and Traffic Stop but the vehicle fled the scene. The BMW lost control and struck a median on Sunrise Highway in the vicinity of Forest Avenue. All four occupants suffered injuries and were placed into police custody. The driver defendant Rodney Smokes, 21 of 601 Grand Avenue suffered a right leg fracture. The Front Passenger, a 16-year-old male defendant from Hempstead suffered fractured ribs. Rear driver passenger defendant Gregory Herrera, 18 of 34 Grenada Ave Roosevelt suffered a laceration to his head and a fractured left arm. Rear passenger Defendant Jablee Cohen, 19, of 320 Jericho Turnpike, Floral Park suffered a fractured neck and skull. All four persons were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. A subsequent investigation recovered a loaded handgun from the vehicle.
Defendant Rodney Smokes is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Stolen Property 4th Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, two counts of Assault 3rd Degree, multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. Defendants Gregory Herrera, Jablee Cohen and the 16-yr. old male are charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm. All defendants will be arraigned when medically practical.
