The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of two men for the Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Monday, February 8, 2020 at 8:18 PM in West Hempstead.
According to Detectives, Officers responded for a call of a stolen vehicle in the vicinity of 490 Hempstead Turnpike. When Officers arrived, they located the stolen 2016 Mercedes-Benz and observed a male sitting in the passenger seat. When Officers attempted to place Defendant Jamaine Hayes, 19 of 211-12 99th, Queens Village, into custody he fled on foot. While fleeing he jumped on top of a parked 2001 Hyundai Sonata, smashing the front windshield. Officers observed a black and silver handgun fall from his waistband and deployed an Electronic Control Device (ECD), with no effect. He continued to resist Officers by kicking his legs and flailing his arms, and in the process broke a large storefront window. Officers then placed him into custody. The second known subject, defendant Tyquan Marcelin, 24 of 902 Edwards Boulevard, Elmont, was observed nearby and Officers attempted to also place him into custody. Defendant Marcelin fled on foot northbound on Cherry Valley. Defendant Marcelin was located a short time later by the Nassau County Police Canine Unit (K9) and placed under arrest by Officers from the Bureau of Special Operations (BSO). Defendant Hayes was transported by Police ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment for hitting the glass window.
Defendant Jamaine Hayes is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Resisting Arrest, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle 3rd degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree.
Defendant Tyquan Marcelin is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle 3rd degree. Both defendants will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Mineola.
