Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a serious auto accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 6:15 pm in Mineola.
According to detectives, while walking in the roadway on Roslyn Road at the intersection of Raff Avenue, a 64-year-old male was struck by a northbound, undescribed, vehicle that left the scene of the accident. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The Homicide Squad reports the above victim has succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician on Saturday February 13, 2021. He has been identified as Robert Maraj, 64, of Mineola. The investigation is ongoing.

The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Charles Polevich, 70, of 165 Roselle Street Mineola for the above listed crime. The above listed vehicle involved was a 1992 Volvo Series 740 Stationwagon color white. He is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with a Fatality and Tampering with Evidence. The defendant will be arraigned in Mineola on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
