The First Squad reports the arrest of a Baldwin man for an incident that occurred on Monday, March 8, 2021, at 9:00 PM in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, First Precinct Officers while on routine patrol observed a 2020 Mercedes Benz traveling northbound on Nassau Road at a high rate of speed and failing to signal while changing lanes. The subject refused to pull his vehicle over as the officers attempted to initiate a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. A brief pursuit ensued and the subject’s vehicle lost one wheel. The subject then exited the vehicle which was still moving, and attempted to flee on foot. The operator, Ronald K Opoku, 23, of 715 Prospect Street, was placed under arrest, and the officers were able to bring the vehicle to a stop. During the subsequent search of the defendant and the vehicle, Police discovered two different controlled substances, and a loaded and defaced 9-millimeter handgun.
The defendant, Ronald K Opoku is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law Infractions. He will be arraigned on March 9, 2021 in Mineola.
