The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of Freeport man for an Assault that occurred on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 9:30 PM in Massapequa.
According to Detectives, the defendant, Shamel Wilkens, 41, of 29 Bedell Street, was in his hotel room located at 400 Carman Mill Road when a 35-year old female victim walked by his door. The defendant started to shout anti-transgender remarks at the victim and as she walked away she was shot in the neck and right leg with a pellet gun. The victim ran to the parking lot and told her boyfriend what happened. The boyfriend confronted the defendant who pointed the pellet gun at the male victim. The defendant returned to his room at which point Seventh Precinct officers responded and placed him into custody without incident. Both victims refused medical attention at the scene.
The defendant is charged with Attempted Assault 2nd Degree, two (2) counts of Menacing 2nd Degree and two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in Mineola.
