The First Squad report the details for an arrest of a Wantagh man that occurred on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 4:10 pm in Wantagh.
According to detectives, officers responded to a residence on Scott Road for reports of an intoxicated male in need of medical assistance. Upon arrival, police were informed that Michael Battah, 69, had made threats to harm the officers responding. Officers contacted Battah who was still inside the home when they arrived and persuaded him to come outside. Battah was combative as he exited the residence with a knife in his hand and he continued to approach the officers, ignoring their verbal commands for him to drop the knife. Police were forced to utilize an ECD (taser) to subdue him and safely secure the knife from the subject. While police attempted to place him into custody, defendant Battah, refused to comply with their commands and actively resisted. After a brief struggle, he was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.
Defendant Michael Battah is charged with three (3) counts of Menacing a Police Officer or Peace Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned Friday, March 26, 2021 in Mineola.
