The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of two individuals on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 8:46 p.m. in West Hempstead.
According to Detectives, the male victim, was shopping at Stop and Shop, 50 Cherry Valley Avenue, West Hempstead. The victim had a verbal disagreement with an unknown male who then exited the store and retrieves what appeared to be a black handgun from his parked car. The defendant Usaiyah Smith, 20 years old, approached the victim and displayed the gun as the argument continued. The victim left the scene and the subject handed the gun to a woman Mondjeska Tonozzi, 18 years old, who placed it in her pocketbook. Police were notified and responded.
A thorough investigation was conducted and the defendants were arrested. It was determined the gun was a bb gun.
The defendant Usaiyah Smith is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree, and Menacing in the 2nd degree. Defendant Mondjeska Tonozzi is charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, she was issued an appearance ticket. Defendant Usaiyah Smith will be arraigned in Mineola on Monday, May 24, 2021.
