Seventh Squad reports the arrest of an Amityville man for an assault that occurred on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 8:20 p.m. in Bellmore.
According to Detectives, an Officer from the Community Oriented Police Enforcement (C.O.P.E.) unit observed a 2013 Infiniti traveling east bound on Sunrise Highway in the vicinity of Bellmore Avenue with altered and an unreadable license plate. The Officer activated his emergency lights and initiated a Vehicular Traffic Stop. During the investigation a male driver became uncooperative and combative. The subject refused to comply with the Officers verbal commands and a struggle ensued. The subject was subdued. Willie Kennedy, 39 years old, of 777 County Line Road, Amityville was arrested.
Officer was taken to an area Hospital for treatment. The Officer suffered multiple injuries to his hands, arms, and knees.
Defendant Kennedy is charged with Assault in the 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree. He will be arraigned on Thursday, June 17, 2021 in Mineola.
