The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hempstead man on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 9:05 pm in Oceanside.
Narcotics/Vice Squad Detectives were on an investigation at Long Beach Road and Waukena Avenue, which lead to the arrest of Romaine Robinson, 25, of 50 Green Avenue, Hempstead. Detectives activated their emergency lights and did conduct a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop of a 2011 gray Porsche at this location. As detectives approached the vehicle, the operator, defendant Robinson, left the scene refusing to stop and continued northbound on Long Beach Road. Detectives later located the defendant on Mahland Place and Kenneth Place where the defendant drove his vehicle at a high rate of speed in reverse towards the officers’ police vehicle intentionally causing a collision and injuries to the officers.
The defendant then refused to comply with multiple verbal commands to exit his vehicle and actively resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, he was placed in custody.
The defendant Robinson was found to be in possession of a white rock like substance believed to be cocaine.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officers suffered injuries to their head, neck and face causing substantial pain. An officer also suffered a fracture to his right hand.
Defendant Robinson has been charged with two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, four (4) counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Resisting Arrest.
He will be arraigned on Sunday, May 2, 2021 in Mineola.
