Fourth Squad Detectives report the arrests of two men during a Vehicle and Traffic stop that occurred on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 3:15 pm in Inwood.
According to detectives, officers from Bureau of Special Operations were conducting traffic enforcement when they observed a Gray 2001 Nissan traveling southbound on Sheridan Blvd. with a temporary license plate and failing to maintain a lane. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.
During the investigation handgun was recovered and the passenger Jamel Thompson, 41, of 4020 Beach Channel Drive Far Rockaway fled on foot. While officers attempted to place Thompson under arrest he refused to comply with verbal commands and resisted arrest. Responding officers helped subdue the subject and he was placed under arrest.
Karyim Brown, 37, of 2627 2nd Avenue Astoria remained at the scene during the investigation.
An officer twisted his knee during the arrest and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Defendant Brown is charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree.
Defendant Thompson is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. They will be arraigned on Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Mineola.
