The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for an incident that occurred on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 12:50 a.m. in Lawrence.
According to Detectives, Officers from the Bureau of Special Operations observed a gray 2010 Mercedes Benz with a Texas registration commit multiple traffic infractions while driving in the vicinity of Route 878 and Rockaway Turnpike. The officers initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation it was determined the operator, Dwayne Gordon, 20, of 201 East 93rd Street, had used fraudulent Texas plates on the vehicle. He was removed from the vehicle and placed into custody. As officers were attempting to place the defendant in the rear of their vehicle he pulled away from the officers and attempted to flee on foot. Officers were able to regain control of the defendant and as they attempted to place him in the rear of the vehicle a second time, he began to violently resist arrest. At one point he intentionally headbutted an officer before finally being placed into the police vehicle. The officers sustained a laceration to his face and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The defendant Dwayne Gordon has been charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Escape 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and multiple traffic infractions. He will be arraigned on Friday, July 30, 2021 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
