According to Narcotics/Vice Squad Detectives, as part of Operation Natalie, Nassau County’s War Against Opioids, Detectives were conducting an investigation in the Franklin Square area. The investigation led to the home of the defendant Joseph Betz, 31, of 598 Bernice Road, Franklin Square. Detectives observed the defendant exit his home and enter his black 2021 Chevy Camaro. Detectives conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop at the intersection of Ferngate Drive and Seminole Road. As Detectives approached the vehicle the defendant accelerated backwards at a high rate of speed before striking a tree. The defendant continued to accelerate in reverse and struck a parked Ford Explorer. As the Detectives approached the vehicle again, the defendant accelerated forward at a high rate of speed towards the Detectives. The Detectives had to leap out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle. The defendant fled and was observed returning to his residence and running into his house. Detectives encountered the defendant at the top of the stairs. As the Detectives were attempting to place the defendant into custody he began to violently resist, kicking and punching the Detectives. As a result of the struggle the defendant and three Detectives fell down the flight of stairs. The defendant was then taken into custody.
As a result of a further investigation, Detectives observed assorted pills, powders and drug packaging materials in plain view in the defendant’s room and located a second defendant, Nicolette Cicchetti, 30, of 15 Caldwell Road, North Valley Stream, hiding under the bed. She refused verbal commands to come out and as Detectives attempted to place her into custody she began to violently resist. After another brief struggle the defendant was also taken into custody.
Detectives were able to recover quantities of heroin, cocaine, alprazolam and oxycodone from the residence. As a result of the violent actions of defendant Betz, three Detectives were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. While in custody, Detectives recovered 2 pills believed to be oxycodone and 1 pill believed to be alprazolam on defendant Cicchetti.
